about

A playful narration of one particular spring morning - My good friend Cassidy awoke me in a hungover haze and brought me swimming, which led to the embarrassing yet hilarious experience of being caught skinny-dipping in the middle of a well attended canoe race. Throughout this upbeat, lyrically driven song there is an undertone of competition and romance, and ambivalence about navigating the blurry line between friendship and something more. - Louisa Stancioff

lyrics

You wake me in the morning
roll me out of bed
The sun is blinding, I’m hungover and you’re laughing
Pants from the night before
You drag me out the door
I sit on your handle bars we’re riding to the rope swing

I don’t wanna be the reason

Naked on the river shore
The waters way too cold
I don’t wanna jump, you say “C’mon its what we came here for”
You were always so demanding
Right then from around the bend
Towards us a red canoe and we can’t think of what to do

I don’t wanna be the reason

I know that we should jump in
But we just stand and laugh
We hold up leaves and branches with the sunlight on our back
And then to our surprise
From not too far behind
Boats are racing and there’s nowhere left for us to hide

I don’t wanna be the reason
Did you really feel like leaving ?

Finally we jump in
Screaming we make a scene
Its not that cold but that’s how you and I did everything
Later on we tell our friends
And everyone is laughing
You always seem to thrive when everybody’s looking at you

I don’t wanna be the reason
Did you really feel like leaving?
Does it even matter?

Now you’re coming here to visit and I don’t know why I’m nervous
Cause its only been a year but somehow now it feels so different
Now it feels so different
Now it feels so different
